A new canopy replacement system could cost as much as $1.4 billion, but it’s still not available in the U.S.

The canopy replacement for the Cessnas twin-engine aircraft is one of the most significant safety advances in decades.
But for now, the new canopy for the twin-engined, single-seat plane, which will replace the canopy on Boeing’s 777X aircraft, is still not being manufactured in the United States.
“The canopy is still a work in progress,” said Doug Drexler, a spokesman for Boeing.
It’s not yet available in Canada and parts for it are being produced in the Philippines, where the plane was built, he said.
In a statement to The Associated Press, Boeing said it plans to continue working with the FAA to develop a canopy replacement.
Boeing has been working with several aircraft manufacturers on the canopy replacement since late last year, when the FAA asked Boeing to design a new canopy to replace the existing canopy.
That’s where things stand, but the company said it still hasn’t gotten the canopy in time for the 2019 test flights.
A canopy replacement has been on the horizon for decades, but was delayed by safety concerns, safety concerns over the technology and concerns about the amount of time it would take to develop the canopy.

When the canopy comes on the market, Dax said, the pilots could fly with the new plane, but not the canopy, because the new airplane would not be able to fly that way.
But Drexers said that pilots could still fly the plane with the canopy still on it, because it is a good, stable canopy.
And the pilots might still be able fly with an airplane with the same type of canopy.
But the canopy could also be the only canopy that is used by both pilots and the plane would not work in all weathers, Drazers said.
