New Orleans’ new Pergola canopy system could be the cheapest and easiest way to create a sustainable pergolan.
The city is planning a $10 million pergolas installation that will replace the existing canopy system that has failed over the years.
The system was built in 2006, but is now due to be replaced in 2022.
The Pergolas are located in the city’s East End neighborhood and offer a variety of recreational options.
The plan is to have them installed in a residential neighbourhood by the end of 2021.
“We wanted to give people the opportunity to live in an urban environment where they could grow their own food,” Mayor Mitch Landrieu said.
“The more urban the environment, the more we’re going to need those pergolis.”
A Pergolasis is made up of three sections, each consisting of a canopy that is attached to a building.
The pergoles are connected by mesh or plastic panels.
Each section of the pergolia has a water tank and irrigation system.
The system will allow the garden to have a steady supply of fresh water.
“They’re like a city house that you can put up in your backyard,” said Landrieuf.
“It’s got all the amenities of a city home.”
Pergolas have been a popular option for backyard gardens since the 1940s, and are still a popular feature for many homeowners.
