A man has died after falling unconscious in a bed canopy during an early morning fire.
The man, identified by police as 27-year-old Brian L. L. Brown, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but the cause of death was not immediately released.
Brown, of the 500 block of West Belmont Avenue, was sleeping in a bunk bed when he went to bed around 11 a.m.
Saturday in the 4500 block of South Belmont Ave., according to police.
He fell asleep and woke up later that day in the bed canopy with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to an arrest affidavit.
Brown died about 4:30 p.m., authorities said.
Brown’s death has been ruled a homicide, and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating the incident, according for CBS Chicago.
